There are numerous cuisines in this world, all cooked and served in different ways from country to country, culture to culture. In Western or European culture, the main dishes are usually “paired” and served with pasta or potato while in Asian culture, the first staple food that comes to mind must be – rice.
Today we are looking into one of the most the most attractive and flavourful rice that widely used in South East Asia – Indica rice.
What is Indica Rice?
Indica rice is a long grain rice that widely planted and produced in different South East Asian countries such as Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam. Within all indica rice production, jasmine rice from Thailand is most famous and favoured in Asian culture. Historically, Thai plant the jasmine rice was next to Pandanus amaryllifolius, which gives jasmine rice a distinct aroma like the fragrant of Pandanus.
Taste and Texture of Indica Rice
With a thin and long outlook with a low amylose level, the rice remains dry, firm and retains a chewy texture after cooked. And that’s the reason why jasmine rice is perfectly used as fried rice in Asian area. This aromatic rice is also good to served and paired with stew dishes!
