Thai prawn fry noodles (A.k.a. Pad Thai) is one of the most famous Thai dish.  When you travel in Thailand, you can get Pad Thai almost everywhere – No matter in a restaurant or at a street food hawker.  Then why this dish became so signature in Thai cuisine?

History of Pad Thai

This extremely popular Thai dish was first appeared after WWII.  Back in that time, people in Thailand were struggling in their living and rice is an expensive staple food to serve in their daily meal.  At the same time, rice noodles became popular among Chinese.  Therefore, Thai started to develop their own rice noodles as their economical staple food.

Taste the Flavours of Pad Thai

Instead of using pork and beef, which were commonly used as main ingredients in Chinese fry rice noodles, Thai used prawns to distinguish their own fry rice noodles style.  With adding local seasonings such as tamarind juice, fish sauce and palm sugar, an appetizing Thai flavour was packed into the Pad Thai.
